It is impossible to convey through the medium of language or art the love-drama that transpires in the body when the moon in the pericarp of the thousand petalled lotus in the head begins to shine. To convey an idea of this acme of transport the simile used by the author of the Bhagvad Purana can hardly be improved upon. This simile is provided by the erotic dance of Krishna with the charming nymphs of Gokula in all abandonment holding him tightly in their rounded arms. The bliss of super-consciousness is not grossly erotic in its nature, but there is no other ecstasy, experienced in mundane life, to which it can be compared in its intensity. "Within it (Sahasrara) is the full moon," says Shat-Chakra-Nirupana (41-42), ". . . it sheds its rays in profusion, and is moist and cool like nectar . . . Here is the Deva (the shining one) who is known to all as Parama Shiva. He is the Brahman and Atma of all beings. In him are united both Rasa and Virasa (the bliss arising from the union of Shiva and Shakti) and he is the Sun which destroys the darkness of nescience and delusion. (e.g. the birth of Krishna)" The Kaliak Purana says: "The Goddess (Shakti) is called Kama because she comes to the secret place on the blue peak of the great mountain Kailasa along with Me (Shiva) for the sake of erotic desire."
